How Our Contract Manufacturing Fills Your Custom Formulas

Ilerspray manufactures aerosols using formulas supplied by the client. The service covers everything from technical compatibility validation to filling, quality control, and private label labeling. As long as the formula is suitable for aerosol packaging, our technical team will evaluate its viability before production begins.
The Process for Validating Client Formulas
Before starting production, the supplied formula goes through a technical validation phase. The goal is to confirm that the product is compatible with the complete aerosol system: propellant, valve, actuator, and container material (aluminum or tinplate).
This stage reviews working pressure, concentrate viscosity, potential corrosivity on the container metal, and the behavior of the mixture under temperature. Real Decreto 1381/2009, which transposes Directive 75/324/EEC on aerosol dispensers into Spanish law, establishes the technical and safety parameters that every aerosol manufactured in Spain must meet, regardless of who developed the formula.
If validation detects any necessary adjustments, the technical team communicates this to the client before committing materials. Filling does not begin until the formula is approved.
What Information Does Ilerspray Need to Get Started?
To start the process, the client provides the technical data sheet for the formula (ingredients and proportions), the safety data sheet for the concentrated product, and the desired spray specifications: spray pattern, dosage per action, output pressure, and valve type.
- Technical data sheet
- complete composition with proportions
- Safety Data Sheet (SDS)
- mandatory for chemical and cosmetic products
- Spray specifications
- pattern, dosage, pressure
- Packaging format
- aluminum or tinplate, desired volume
- Labeling requirements
- brand, languages, applicable regulations
Formula confidentiality is protected by a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before any technical data is shared. This practice is standard in the aerosol contract manufacturing industry.
Sectors and Formula Types That Can Be Packaged
Ilerspray works with client formulas in the four sectors covered by its production capacity: cosmetics, home, automotive, and industry. The restriction is not the sector but the nature of the product: formulas must be suitable for pressurized packaging.
| Sector | Examples of products with client formulas |
|---|---|
| Cosmetics | Deodorants, hairsprays, personal hygiene products |
| Home | Air fresheners, insecticides, cleaners |
| Automotive | Cleaners, protectants, specialized lubricants |
| Industry | Degreasers, lubricants, equipment protectants |
For cosmetic products, the manufacturing process is also governed by ISO 22716, which establishes good manufacturing practices for this sector and is required by Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 of the European Parliament for marketing cosmetics in the European Union. Ilerspray holds ISO 22716/2017 certification, ensuring that the client's cosmetic formula is processed within a compliant manufacturing environment.
💡 Technical tip: If the client's formula includes flammable propellants (hydrocarbons), it is advisable to indicate this from the first contact. Ilerspray's facilities are equipped to work with them, but the type of propellant determines the safety controls and the batch approval process.
The Client Retains Ownership of the Formula
Contract aerosol manufacturing does not involve giving up the intellectual property of the formula. Ilerspray acts as a contract manufacturer: it produces the aerosol, controls quality, and delivers the finished product under the client's brand, without acquiring any rights to the formulation.
This model, common in the industry as white label or private label, allows the client to scale production without investing in their own infrastructure (filling lines, propellant storage, pressure controls) and without transferring their main technological asset.
With a capacity of over 12 million units per year and aluminum and tinplate containers from international suppliers, the plant can handle both initial validation runs and stable production volumes.
Once the contract manufacturing project is defined, the next step is the custom aerosol contract manufacturing and production page, which details the service and allows for a quote request.
